Apple earphones will turn into hearing aids with new software update - here's how it works
Apple revealed its new iPhone last night with typical fanfare, along with a nifty little feature for its earphones that are already on the market. A software update to the firm's 229 AirPods Pro 2, first released in 2022, will let wearers use them as a clinical-grade hearing aid. The feature boosts specific sounds in real time without a lag – such as another person's speech or environmental noises like traffic. Apple hopes it will shake up the market for hearing aids, which typically cost 400 or more. It will be available as part of iOS 18, Apple's new software update coming later this month.

Tesla starts rolling out of Full Self-Driving Beta in Canada
Tesla has officially started rolling out its Full Self-Driving Beta in Canada – marking the first official international expansion of the driver-assist system that Tesla taunts as an early version of a true self-driving system. Since October 2020, Tesla has been slowly rolling out what it is calling "Full Self-Driving Beta" (FSD Beta), which is an early version of its self-driving software that is currently being tested by a fleet of Tesla owners selected by the company and through its "safety test score." The software enables the vehicle to drive autonomously to a destination entered in the car's navigation system, but the driver needs to remain vigilant and ready to take control at all times. Since the responsibility lies with the driver and not Tesla's system, it is still considered a level two driver-assist system despite its name. It has been sort of a "two steps forward, one step back" type of program, as some updates have seen regressions in terms of the driving capabilities.

Apple lets you use Face ID to unlock your iPhone when wearing a MASK
Nearly two years since the Covid pandemic started, Apple is finally letting iPhone users unlock their iPhone with Face ID when wearing a face mask. Face ID, Apple's facial recognition system, has reportedly received the all-important update as part of iOS 15.4, which is now going through beta testing. Florida-based iOS user Brandon Butch, one of the early testers, has posted screenshots of the new feature to Twitter. It seems iPhone users have the option to turn the tool on and off, although Apple says Face ID is more effective while being able to see the entire face. Since the start of the pandemic, getting Face ID to automatically recognise our face to unlock our iPhones has been a bugbear as we've had masks over our faces.

Tesla releases auto wiper update trained by new deep neural net - Electrek
Tesla has released a new software update with major improvements to its automatic wiper trained with a new deep neural net previously referred to as "Deep Rain." Like most premium vehicles today, Tesla has an automatic wiper system that automatically matches the speed of the wipers to the intensity of the rain or snow. Instead, the automaker is using its Autopilot cameras to feed its computer vision neural net to determine the speed for the wipers. It has been deployed in Tesla vehicles since last year, but some owners have been complaining that it is not as accurate as other systems using rain sensors. Lately, CEO Elon Musk has been talking about Tesla releasing a new "Deep Rain" neural net to improve the automatic wipers.
Tesla Model 3s can now park themselves thanks to new software update
Tesla's Model 3 sedans can now park themselves after the firm beamed an over-the-air update to the all-electric cars this week. The feature was already available in the Model S and Model X and lets Tesla owners push a button to have their car pull in or out of parking spaces. Called Summon, it also allows the vehicles to open and close garage doors and power down without a driver behind the wheel. Tesla's Model 3 sedans can now park themselves after Elon Musk's firm pushed out a new software update to the all-electric vehicles this week Once they get the wireless update, released Thursday, owners must line up their Model 3 to within 33 feet (10m) of a space to park. They must then stand within ten feet (3m) and direct the car to park itself using the key fob or Tesla's smartphone app.

Why Wait? Use AI to Automate Basic Business Tasks - insideBIGDATA
In this special guest feature, Brian Schwarz, VP of Product Management at Pure Storage, discusses how the primary value of AI is around automation. That means just about anywhere we currently use humans to complete repetitive tasks, AI can help. AI and machine learning teach computers to recognize patterns in unstructured data and turn it into structured data in a manner that allows for automatic response to be applied. Industry analysts estimate AI will be built into nearly every new software update to hit the market by 2020. Organizations that make the shift earlier will have a major competitive advantage.

These robots can talk to one another to 'see' around factory corners
Locus' autonomous warehouse robots just got a whole lot smarter, thanks to a new software update that allows them to talk to each other. Anyone who has ever worked as part of a team (which, in today's hyperconnected world, is virtually everyone) will know that things work better when people talk with one another. This way knowledge gets shared, collaborations become possible, and individual successes or mistakes are collectively learned from. Why would you think that things would be any different in the world of robotics? That's exactly what the folks at Locus Robotics have been proving with a major new software update for their factory robot LocusBots. LocusBots are autonomous warehouse robots, capable of moving autonomously through a space and then transporting items from where they're picked off shelves to the place they're packaged into boxes and shipped out.
iOS 10.3: 5 Expected Features Of Apple's New Software Update
Apple released Tuesday the iOS 10.3 Beta 1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The Beta 1 is a Developer Beta and not a Public Beta, which means that its availability would be restricted to iOS developers for now. Still, the iOS 10.3 Beta 1 holds clues to features that will be included in the final version of iOS 10.3 when it releases as official software update to all eligible iPhone, iPad and iPod models. Here are five features you can expect in iOS 10.3: While Apple introduced the AirPods back in September, the wireless earphones were just recently made available to customers.
Apple iOS 10.2 Found To Bring Home App Changes Aside From New Emojis, TV App
Beta testing for Apple's iOS 10.2 update may have hyped up consumers for the addition of new emojis and redesign of existing ones. What beta testers may not have uncovered or anticipated with this new update, however, is the upgrade to the Home app that is quite handy for Smart Home owners. The Cupertino giant launched iOS 10.2 on Monday, and many users quickly jumped into the bandwagon of updating their iOS-running devices. While many may have focused on the already leaked modifications the update was expected to bring, there were also those who grabbed the chance to thoroughly examine what the new software update does to certain apps. Hours following the release of the new software update for iPhones and iPads, AppleInsider's Neil Hughes discovered that the Home app was also updated with meaningful changes.
